We planned to go to the Art Institute before seeing the fireworks on July 3rd at Grant Park. The last time I was at the Art Institute, they made me check my purse since it was technically a backpack, which they don't allow. However, it was a small backpack that I couldn't possibly have stashed anything in, so I don't know what's up with that. Anyway, since I prefer to use backpack-style purses, and I didn't have another bag I thought would be appropriate (they frown on large bags, too, or so I thought), I decided to wear this Tumi vest that I could stash a bunch of stuff into, similar to the Scott-e vests with all the hidden pockets for stashing your electronics and personal items. I mainly held my LX3 camera since it was rather bulky to put in any of the pockets. But the rest of the stuff shown with the vest was what I carried.
It was weird not to have a bag to carry around, but also rather freeing. Next time, though, I won't be so paranoid, since when we got to the Art Institute (the Modern Wing), I saw a few people carrying large bags, like messenger bags...psh! At least I know I'll be able to bring in a messenger-style bag next time. Sheesh.
