A view over San Jose and maybe some other surrounding cities from Sierra Rd. Took this pano last December during the lunar eclipse. There was a little "downtime" during the eclipse when I wasn't shooting photos of the moon, so I shot this pano in the meantime.
Lunar eclipse from December 21, 2010. Took these shots from a spot on Sierra Rd. in San Jose (or Milpitas, not sure within which boundaries we were). Unfortunately there's nothing out there to add extra interest to the lunar eclipse, so the blushing eclipse itself will have to do.

I stacked three photos together to get this composition with a bit more dynamic range. Pretty good from a slow 70-300 VR lens.
Somewhere I stumbled across the technique called "freelensing", where you hold your SLR lens against the mount and swivel it around to focus (please Google for more details; I'm not responsible for any damage you inflict on your camera!). It seems like the "poor man's" alternative to getting a Lensbaby. Works for me, since I don't have the budget for a Lensbaby yet (it's on my Amazon Wish List, in case anyone wants to be ridiculously generous :D ), I was happy to try this out. Hope I'm not ruining my D90 with this experiment... *sheepish grin*
No cats were harmed in the making of this photo.

In this picture I didn't get too much selective focus, but I did get some great "light leakage". Hope I'm not ruining my D90 with this experiment... *sheepish grin*
On a whim we drove down to Santa Cruz. We took the long way down there -- more mountain driving for the hubby -- hung out until a little after sunset, and then drove back the more direct route. Nice day trip. Still can't get over the fact that we can take short trips like this to get to places like Santa Cruz or the Sonoma area. Nice... :)
